Take off that hideous jacket, the only thing that's in this season is a state of mental disruption. Yes we are talking shit but one thing's for sure, the juggernaut that is Crazy P (or at least its pair of leading lads) has picked up where it left us at a peak around '08. This isn't to say that James Baron and Chris Todd aka. Ron Basejam & Hot Toddy have neglected their numerous projects in the time since (Down To Love was one of 2010's finer moments), it just strikes me that the output from and influence of the duo, solo or otherwise, is at an all time high. I'm splitting this post into two, was looking unsightly and long. Consider this the shy half.
Debuting last week with the EP Sir John, is the project of Toddy, Basejam and Benjamin Smith (from Smith & Mudd), White Elephant. Be warned, the first track Sir John is by no means disco, a nightclub would likely taint it - the original is however a balearic, slo-mo bliss, with a dash of modern classical acoustics. Spanish families probably lounge in post-Sunday lunch, wine-induced, pre-siesta coma's listening to this song. The record's B side keeps with the balearic theme yet, courtesy of the respected up-comer Mark E, is infused with some great housey sounds, progressions and drops.
